National Suicide Prevention Month - You are Never Alone
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. All mental health advocates, prevention organizations, allies and community members unite to promote suicide awareness. WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY is September 10th. This is a time to remember those affected by suicide, to raise awareness and focus efforts on those in need of treatment.
Research shows that people who have thoughts of suicide feel relief when someone asks after them in a caring way. Acknowledging and talking about suicide can reduce risk. Creating communities in which individuals can live stigma free and find accessible mental health resources is an important step in suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
In a time of physical distancing it is most important that we remind one another and ourselves that this does not mean we are alone. Now more than ever it is important to stay connected, check on loved ones, reach out to friends and offer support to those who may struggle socially, be isolated and struggle with mental health issues.
