NEW WHS Schedule for the Reminder of the School Year
As you know from Dr. Casarico’s most recent email, which was sent out the week before the break, Waldwick High School will be implementing the next step in our Return to School Plan. This new component to our program will take effect on Monday, May 3, 2021.
Please know that in developing this new schedule, we have adhered to our goal of safely providing more in-person learning to our students. This new schedule achieves that goal.
*Next week I will be holding grade level meetings to review all of this with the students.
The details of the plan are the following:
Students will remain in their current cohorts and follow the same schedule of days in the building that we have been following.
Pride - Monday and Tuesday
Spirit - Thursday and Friday
*Pride and Spirit will still be switching every week on Wednesday's.
We will run the same structure to our schedule that we have been running throughout this school year; however, there are some small changes to the times and length of the periods. We will continue with the four blocks in the AM and the two classes/blocks in the PM.
The school day will start at 8:00 AM.
The AM blocks will now be 52 minutes in length on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
The PM classes/blocks will now also be 52 minutes in length.
After the PM classes/blocks on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, there will be Teachers’ Office Hours from 2:30 - 3:10 PM.
The four blocks on Wednesdays will remain 64 minutes in length. There will be no PM classes/blocks on Wednesdays. Teachers’ Office Hours will be scheduled on these days on an as-needed basis.
This change does not impact full-time remote learners and we will continue with our Concurrent Teaching program.
At the conclusion of the morning blocks, students will be eating lunch on school grounds. The details of the lunch program are as follows:
Seniors will be allowed to leave the campus for lunch.
Juniors will be allowed to leave the campus for lunch (With Parent/Guardian approval). A Genesis Form is now available in Parent Access for parents to complete giving their child permission to leave campus for lunch. A Junior will not be allowed to leave unless that form is completed. Please have the form completed by 3pm on Wednesday, 4/28.
The lunch break will be 50 minutes in length, which is consistent with what it has been all year.
Students will have to bring their own lunch. Lunch will not be served or provided by Waldwick High School.
Lunch will only be eaten in three designed “In-Door” areas or outside:
Sophomores - Cafeteria
Freshmen - Gym
Juniors and Seniors that choose to stay in will eat in the Greenberg Center
*We strongly encourage all students to eat outside when the weather is nice. Outside seating will be available around the campus.
No one will be eating in the hallways or at the high top tables.
While students are eating, obviously face coverings will be off. Once students are finished eating, students will be required to put their face coverings back on whether they are inside or outside.
Please note that face coverings will continue to be worn by all WHS community members when in the building or on school grounds, except when students are eating lunch.
We will be maintaining 6 feet of social distancing during the lunch period. We will also be continuing with the 6 feet of social distancing for all classes/classrooms as well.
Students will not be permitted to wander around during the lunch period.
The Full Day Bell Schedule will be as follows:

Block 3 - 9:52 - 10:44
Block 4 - 10:48 - 11:40
Lunch Period/Break - 11:42 - 12:32

- The monthly calendar will not change.
- Students will be supervised by faculty, staff and administration during the lunch period/break.
The week of June 14-18 there will be no lunch as these will be half days.
