WHS - MLK Week of Service

Image
This year WHS will be taking part in our very own MLK Week of Service from January 8th, 2024, to January 12th, 2024, which leads up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 15th. This week will serve as a reminder of the power of service and the importance of giving back. We believe that participating in the MLK Week of Service can play a vital role in fostering not only the growth of our students but also the betterment of our community. The WHS Social Studies Department has taken the lead on this initiative and more information will be shared over the next two weeks in regards to: volunteer opportunities, service trips and the different ways students and staff will be able to participate. It’s our goal to have the entire WHS community involved in some type of service during the MLK Week of Service. An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity ~ Martin Luther King

Congratulations to Waldwick High School which was named to the 2023 AP School Honor Roll! The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness. “AP represents an opportunity for students to stand out to colleges, earn college credit and placement, and potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools have shown that they can expand access to these college-level courses and still drive high performance – they represent the best of our AP program.” Special thanks to our AP teachers for all their hard work in preparing our students for the AP exam. New Procedures for Reporting a Student Absent

Image
Update on reporting student absences at Waldwick High School:  As I mentioned in one of my summer blog posts , punctuality and attendance are crucial aspects of a student's academic journey. They play a significant role in shaping their overall educational experience and future success. As part of our focus on attendance and our continuous drive to improve everyday logistical functions at the High School and Middle School campus, we have created a new attendance procedure for when your child is going to be absent from school.  You will no longer call the school to report an absence. Instead, you will now be logging into Genesis Parent Portal and reporting the absence online.  The Genesis Parent Portal attendance module will be our new form of communication when alerting the school that your child will be absent. This new three step process streamlines everything into one location and helps our daily attendance procedures move at a quicker pace.  Please click the link below for th

Welcome Back

Image
Bring on the 23-24 school year! I hope all the students and WHS families had a great summer. It's been an exciting summer here at WHS with all of the construction and renovations going on. What a great time to be part of Waldwick High School and Warrior Nation. We have one more phase of construction: Rooms 423, 425, 427, 429, 501 & 503 and the exterior of the Gym area. Yes, the construction will cause some inconveniences and changes to our normal routines, but the end product is something everyone connected to WHS and the Waldwick community will be extremely proud of! On Wednesday, September 6, we will follow a Special Schedul e where all classes will meet. Everyone will report to their Period 1 class by 8am. Seniors who have Period 1 Independent should be in the building by 8:45am. and check in with Mrs. Raffaele in front of the Little Theater. Students should bring a copy of their schedule/screen shot or have access to Genesis via their phone. Health classes will start on

Recap of the 9th grade orientation / Time to walk the building

Image
It was great to see the class of 2027 last week at the 9th grade orientation. A lot of information was shared with the students. Here is the link to my presentation -  9th Grade Orientation 2027 . One thing we were not able to do was allow students to walk around the building to see where their classes are. I know this might be stressing some of the students, so we will open the building on Tuesday, 9/5 from 2 - 3pm for students to walk around and figure out their schedule. The counselors and administrators will be around to help answer any questions. Understanding Your Schedule  For Wednesday, 9/6 we will follow an "All Classes Meet Schedule". Here is what you see on Genesis when you look at the summary tab. *As a note, lunch does not appear on students schedule. For Wednesday, lunch will take place from 11:10 - 12:01. **When a class is listed twice on the schedule in the same period or a different period, that relates to a science course / lab. The science teachers will
