November Students of the Month

Julien Napoli - Julien Napoli is Science Student of the Month for his work in Astronomy. The quality of Julien’s work in Astronomy is first-rate. He is eager to understand every detail and demonstrates his deep interest in and fascination with the subject each day. He reads widely in the topic outside of class and always has a good question that extends our class discussions in new directions. He is never satisfied with his level of understanding and is always striving to dig deeper. These are the qualities of an excellent scientist.

CAD Trevor Ramundo - Trevor is a senior in CAD II. He has performed exceptionally well holding an “A” and leads the class with completing his assignments. Congratulations Cara Montella - Bergen County High School Band

Congratulations to Waldwick trombonist Cara Montella on her acceptance into Bergen County High School Band.  Talented musicians from high schools all over Bergen County audition for the chance to perform in this prestigious group.  County band provides an opportunity for students to perform a challenging program with the best musicians of the area.
This is the second year Cara has been accepted into this honor ensemble.  Cara placed second at the audition and her score was the second highest of all the trombonists who tried out.  This is quite an accomplishment for a sophomore; Cara’s score placed her ahead of junior and senior trombone players who auditioned.

Bergen Record Athlete of the Week - Ashley Ott

Congratulations to Ashley Ott on receiving the  Bergen Record Athlete of the Week

School Budgets - The on Going Struggles

While preparing for an upcoming distirct level budget meeting, I remembered a movie clip that I think puts a great spin on the budget process.
From the movie "Dave" (1993)  Balancing the Budget (4:05)
What I took away from the clip: Everyone needs to be willing to compromise Come in with an open mind Stay focused on the task at hand Any decisions made must keep in mind the affects on students/Learning  See the big picture (District Needs), its not only about your school  Think outside box - BE CREATIVE Work together as a TEAM "The smartest person in the room is no longer a person but the room itself"

Congratulations to two of Waldwick High School's finest Julia Montella and Brianna Fleming on receiving high honors in this year's WordWright Challenge.

Press Release

Two students representing Waldwick High School recently won high honors in this year's WordWright Challenge, a competition for American high school students requiring close reading and analysis of many different kinds of prose and poetry.
In the year's first meet, held in October, senior Julia Montella, who made only two mistakes, placed among the 104 highest-scoring twelfth graders in the entire country. At the same time, freshman Brianna Fleming placed among the 159 highest-scoring ninth graders nationwide. More than 58,000 students from 46 states (and four foreign nations) entered the meet. The students' participation was overseen by Amy Baskin and Liz Getlik.
The premise behind the WordWright Challenge is that attentive reading and sensitivity to language are among the most important skills students…

This I Believe - Podcasts

Ninth grade students who have either Ms. McCann or Ms. De Gironimo for English this year wrote their own "This I Believe" essays as part of the contemporary nonfiction unit of study during the first marking period.  The essays were then recorded as podcasts by their respective authors and posted on the high school website.
