Congratulations Cara Montella - Bergen County High School Band

Image
Congratulations to Waldwick trombonist Cara Montella on her acceptance into Bergen County High School Band.   Talented musicians from high schools all over Bergen County audition for the chance to perform in this prestigious group.  County band provides an opportunity for students to perform a challenging program with the best musicians of the area. This is the second year Cara has been accepted into this honor ensemble.  Cara placed second at the audition and her score was the second highest of all the trombonists who tried out.  This is quite an accomplishment for a sophomore; Cara’s score placed her ahead of junior and senior trombone players who auditioned.

School Budgets - The on Going Struggles

Image
While preparing for an upcoming distirct level budget meeting, I remembered a movie clip that I think puts a great spin on the budget process.  From the movie "Dave" (1993)  Balancing the Budget (4:05) What I took away from the clip:   Everyone needs to be willing to compromise Come in with an open mind Stay focused on the task at hand Any decisions made must keep in mind the affects on students/Learning  See the big picture (District Needs), its not only about your school  Think outside box - BE CREATIVE Work together as a TEAM "The smartest person in the room is no longer a person but the room itself"

WHS makes the "AP" District Honor Roll

Image
Waldwick High School is one of 539 high schools nationwide and in Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the 3rd  Annual AP District Honor Roll for increasing Advanced Placement (AP) course work while also increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP exams. Achieving both of these goals is the ideal scenario for a district’s AP program because it indicates that the district is successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are likely to benefit most from rigorous course work.   Only five Bergen County high schools received this prestigious honor this school year.   Inclusion on the 3rd Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on the examination of data from 2010 to 2012.  To be included, performance levels had to improve from 2010 to 2012.  Last spring, 78.4% of the students who took AP courses at Waldwick High School achieved a grade of 3 or higher, qualifying them for credit at the college level.
