Congratulations to Waldwick High School tuba player Anthony Tutschek on his acceptance into Bergen County High School Band.  Talented musicians from high schools all over Bergen County audition for the chance to perform in this special group.  County band provides an opportunity for students to perform a challenging program with the best musicians of the area.  This is the second year Anthony has been accepted into this honor ensemble.   Great job, Anthony!

Congratulations to Waldwick High School junior Anthony Tutschek on his acceptance into the Bergen County High School Band!  Anthony competed against the best tuba players from high schools throughout Bergen County for the chance to perform in this special group.   Being a member of the County band provides an opportunity for a student to perform a challenging program with the best musicians in the area.  Students who were accepted will rehearse together in January and perform in a concert on Sunday, January 17, 2016.  Congratulations, Anthony! In the spring, the 129 freshmen at Waldwick High School participated in a Global Empathy Project that consisted of researching global issues and taking action to raise awareness. The students took the project to the next level and initiated fundraisers throughout the school and community as an effort to support these causes and raised a total of $2,746. One group of three students raised over $700, 25.5% of the total, to donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Hannah Corbisiero, Kiera McGovern and Danielle Burke showed tremendous initiative, motivation, and compassion towards aiding the efforts of pediatric cancer research. Congratulations to them for such an amazing and inspiring accomplishment. A huge thank you to all the Blue Print teachers for all the work they put towards the Global Empathy Project!  

Last Spring, Ms. McCann's AP Psychology class participated in TED-Ed Clubs where they gave talks explaining their original ideas in a creative and engaging presentation. The first Waldwick student to be featured on the TED-Ed Website is Shayna O'Reilly, discussing "Subtle Sexism."  5 must see Ted-Ed Club Videos  

WHS Biology teacher, Ms. Robin Marsiglia, is participating in a $3 million National Science Foundation project, partnered through Stevens Institute of Technology.  The goals of this project are to study how high school Science teachers in different disciplines can learn engineering concepts, how they introduce those concepts in the classroom, and to develop a set of recommendations to guide teachers in infusing curricula with engineering concepts and activities.  Teacher participation in the program requires a two-year, 4 week professional development and classroom implementation commitment. The module will engage students in an engineering design challenge.  The engineering activities are related to atmospheric carbon dioxide and will require students to apply and synthesize concepts related to photosynthesis and the cycling of carbon in living and nonliving components of the biosphere.  Both are topics in the Waldwick Curriculum.  The students will also...

                           Andrew received the National Merit Scholarship Program – Letter of Commendation for outstanding performance on the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in 2013. In late September, more than two-thirds (about 34,000) of the approximately 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT® receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.  Commended students are named on the basis of a nationally applied Selection Index score that may vary from year to year and is typically below the level required for participants to be named Semifinalists in their respective states. Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit® Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.                                   The College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) identifies academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students.   Each year, the NHRP honors approximately 5,000 of the highest-scoring students   from over 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT. Recognized students are mailed certificates in September of their senior year.  NHRP is proud to honor outstanding students who are academically exceptional students. Congratulations  Armando! I would first like to thank Dr. Raupers, Members of the board of education, Mr. Carroll, Mr. Clancy, faculty, honored guests, parents, family and friends for being here on this special occasion. This is a special moment for all of us because it marks a great transition in our lives-- a transition to paying an arm and a leg for school. Since we have entered high school we have been looking forward to this day, looking forward to not having homework every night and a break in the monotony that has been school for the past 12 years. Seven years ago, I sat over there with the band and I heard the first of many valedictorian speeches. I remember all of the speeches were full of inspiring memories and were chockfull of creativity.
