October Students of the Month 2014 – 2015

 LANGUAGE ARTS

KATHRYN DEGELMAN – Katie, a senior, is currently enrolled in AP Literature and Composition.  Katie’s enthusiasm and dedication to the study of literature and her appreciation of reading helped make her a good choice for Student of the Month.  In AP English, she works hard to gain a deeper understanding of the work we are studying showing herself to be an excellent literary critic.  In addition, Katie is an excellent writer who shines in the classroom in her ability to discover the nuances of the text and shows that through her writing.  Most importantly, Katie loves to read and talk about the numerous books she devours.  It’s clear she is a lifelong reader.

ART

ISABELLA AYVAZ – Isabella, a senior, is currently enrolled in AP Studio Art and has studied Art all four years of her high school career.  She is an extremely talented young woman and her artwork is meticulous and detailed.  Isabella has been a positive motivator for other young artists in the Art classroom.  She even used her artistic talent to design the Breast Cancer awareness jerseys for the girls’ soccer team.  Isabella will be greatly missed when she pursues her college goals.

ATHLETICS

SEAN BILLIES – Sean, a senior, is a Captain on the undefeated football team this year.  He leads by example and works hard every day on the field.  Sean anchors a line that is leading one of the best running attacks in North Jersey and plays defense on team allowing only 12 points a game.  Sean has not only been a great athlete so far this year, he has been a great student as well.  Sean is currently carrying all A’s and B’s in all of his classes and has been a respectful school citizen as well.  Sean is everything a Waldwick Warrior should be.

CARLY THOMSON – Carly, a senior, is a strong leader as Captain of the volleyball team.  Carly is encouraging to other players as well as leading by example on and off the court.  The other players look up to her and Carly is always giving 110% of herself during a game and during practice.  Carly has the difficult job of being the only setter in a 5:1 lineup.  She is in every play of the game and she touches the ball the most out of all of our players.  Carly averages about 12 assists a game and about 3 kills, which is amazing for a setter.  She is also one of our best servers and diggers.  Carly has really brought tremendous team spirit to the players.  She has hosted several pasta parties to support “togetherness” and helped create fun ideas for the pep rally.  Carly always conducts herself in a positive way.  She is respectful to her peers, coaches, officials and opponents.
