Welcome Back Post - 17-18 School Year

I can't wait for September 6!  Yes, I love summer and enjoy the time off as much as anyone, but at this point I am ready to start another school year.  This year adds a little more excitement because of our new schedule.

New Schedule
For the first day/first rotation ...
  • September 6 we will follow a Special Schedule where all classes will meet.
  • There is no more Homeroom.  Everyone will report to their Period 1 class by 8am
  • Students should bring a copy of their schedule or a screen shot.
  • Health classes will start on Thursday, 9/7.  All students should report to the Gym on the first day.
  • Science Labs will not start until Wednesday, 9/13.
  • Locker # and combination are available on Genesis, as well as on your schedule.
General Info Related to the New Schedule
  • Our new schedule is described as a "Rotating Drop" schedule.  We will follow a four day rotation, with two classes dropped per day. Each class is 59 minutes and everyone will have a common lunch for 50 minutes.
  • Here is a copy of my presentation from last year, which was created for the parent meetings I ran.  The presentation contains everything you need to know about the schedule.
  • The entire school year has been planned out related to the rotation schedule.  See link for the calendar of the year: 2017 - 2018 Rotation Schedule
  • Classes start at 8am.  I can't emphasize this enough, students need to be at school no later than 7:55.
Improvements around WHS
  • I think we all know the big project was the turf.  The field turned out great and our student-athletes have been on it since the first week in August.
  • Three learning rooms (140, 310 & 311) were upgraded with new flexible furniture to enhance the learning environment.
  • Eleven additional high top tables and fifty-four chairs have been ordered to be placed around the building.
  • Forty-Five additional chairs for the Cafeteria were ordered to insure everyone will have a place to sit during the common lunch.
  • The upgrading of drop ceilings and new lighting throughout the hallways continued
  • The blue awning around the outside of the building was painted.
  • Student parking spots will be numbered in the lower parking lot.
No Homework Breaks
Once again we will have "NO Homework Breaks" throughout the school year.  These breaks are needed to allow students to relax from the stress of school work and enjoy time with friends and family.  I encourage everyone during these breaks to use this time to have family dinners, plan a game night, go to the movies, read just for the enjoyment of it, or anything
that might put a smile on your faces.
Breaks with No Homework
  • Teacher Convention 11/9 - 11/12
  • Holiday Break  12/23 - 1/1
  • Winter Break 2/16 - 2/20
  • Spring Break 4/15 - 4/22
