WALDWICK HIGH SCHOOL
December Students of the Month
2017 – 2018
MATHEMATICS
LESLEY RAMIREZ-CORTEZ - Lesley is a new freshman student, both to Waldwick and the United States. She has a great attitude and is always willing to help other students in the room with both their own math work and with translating. She is a conscientious student and works very hard at both her math and learning the English that goes with it. Since she is working through an individualized program, she often teaches herself what she needs to know and goes above and beyond to master the material. She is yet another great addition to the Warrior Family.
VOCAL
AMANDA CORKILL - Amanda is currently a member of the Senior Chorus who is always willing to learn different ways to improve her singing techniques. She has worked hard to develop the skills necessary to be a valuable member of the Music Department, as well as the Drama Club. Amanda focuses her energy on proper singing techniques and through the past years has developed a good sense of the musical theater style as well as choral singing. Amanda seeks help when needed and gives support to the other members of the Chorus and Drama Club. She can always be counted on to take part as a leader, helping other students along the way. Amanda’s energy and commitment to singing as well as her love for performing shine through both on stage and off.
ATHLETICS
KELLY GRIFFIN – Kelly is a sophomore on the Girls Basketball Team this winter. She helped the team to three wins to start the season in December and a birth in the Elmwood Park Holiday Tournament Final. Kelly is a tenacious defender who has been tasked with stopping the opponents best player every night. In the Holiday tournament semifinal, Kelly held Becton's leading scorer, who averages 25 points a game, to a season low 14 points in the Waldwick win. Not only is Kelly a Warrior on the basketball court, she is a Warrior in the classroom as well, earning all A’s and B’s in her honors classes.
MATTHEW GUERRA – Matt is a sophomore on the Wrestling Team this winter. His second year as a Varsity starter, Matt opened the season with a flourish. He won the 113 pound title at the Clifton Mustang Invitational on December 16, won his first dual match of the season, then finished 8th at the Bergen County Tournament over the holiday break.
