Heart Screening for Class of 2027

Over the past fifteen years, Waldwick High School has teamed up with the Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation to honor the life of Sean Fisher and provide heart screenings to all 9th graders.

Sean Patrick Fisher passed away August 25, 2008 on his 13th birthday from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). By all appearances, Sean was a healthy teenager. But as was discovered, appearances can be deceiving. There was no reason to have his heart checked – or so we thought. He never complained of chest pain, lightheadedness or the myriad of other symptoms associated with SCA.

The Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation was established in Sean’s memory to screen high school freshmen students for undetected heart conditions, while trying to prevent their families from the unbelievable shock, trauma and lifelong sorrow that sudden cardiac arrest can bring.

The screening program is offered at no cost to the Freshman class ONLY and will take place at Waldwick High School on February 5 & 6, 2024 during school hours. The company that will be handling the screening is MCORE Foundation. Screenings take approximately 15-20 minutes and include an ECG and Echo test performed by registered cardiac sonographers.
