Our very own Senior, Matthew Rypkema, has been nominated for the NorthJersey.com - I am Sport Award 

The I AM SPORT Award presented by Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is a contest created to honor high school student athletes who are committed to giving back to the youth in their communities. Mr. Fisher (Sean Fisher's Father) nominated Matthew and this is what he wrote: 

Matthew was found to have a severe case of arrhythmia from the Sean Fisher annual heart screenings at Waldwick High School when he was a freshman. Matthew had to undergo a procedure called an ablation, to realign the electrical components in his heartbeat. This all took place when Matthew was a freshman. Since that Matthew has a been our biggest advocate by far, with his family. He speaks to every freshman class before they go through their heart screenings to put them at ease. 

He was just in Trenton testifying with my wife and I in front of the New Jersey education senate committee, trying to pass a law that includes a heart questionnaire component, when it comes to their physicals in schools. Matthew and this family also accompanied my wife and I to the parent heart watch conference in Savannah Georgia in January. Matthew is also in the video that was produced in Savannah Georgia to raise awareness and prevention of sudden cardiac arrest, and sudden cardiac death in our youth. 

This young man has done more to advocate for our cause and Sons Foundation than anyone since we started providing the free heart screenings in Waldwick High School, Paramus High School and Wallington High School.
